CONCEPT

Korea has more to show than K-Dramas

Hoppin Island Learncation is not an ordinary language retreat. We replace textbooks with the famous Bireung-gil trails, and classrooms with local village interactions.
WHAT TO EXPECT

Expect these three things from this trip

Stepping Out of Comfort Zones

This isn't a luxury resort. Expect authentic village guesthouses, language barriers that challenge you to learn, and engaging with locals instead of just observing them from afar.

An Active, Rewarding Pace

You will be walking—a lot. The Bireung-gil trails require moderate physical fitness. You'll balance morning hikes with focused afternoon deep-work sessions.

Deep Human Connections

With only 10 participants, you'll form tight-knit bonds. Expect collaborative dinners, shared struggles with Korean grammar, and a powerful sense of community.
HIGHLIGHTS

The best moments will be

A perfect balance of deep work, cultural immersion, and nature exploration.

Trekking @Bireung-gil

Hike the stunning coastal cliff trails of Geumodo. Each day, we tackle a new course, combining physical wellness with guided nature storytelling.

Living Korean

No textbooks. Learn survival and conversational Korean through daily missions like ordering fresh seafood and interviewing village elders.

Light Workation Setup

We utilize the Jangji Community Center and cozy guesthouses to provide reliable Wi-Fi and quiet spaces, so you never miss a deadline.

Community Giveback

Turn your stay into a meaningful contribution. Help translate menus for local eateries or create social media content for the village.

Local Food

Forage for the island's famous Bangpung namul, enjoy local seafood, and participate in an authentic cooking class with the residents.

Exclusive Network

Bond with a curated group of exactly 10 digital nomads, remote workers, and expats in an intimate, collaborative environment.

Why Geumodo Island?

Geumodo, part of the Yeosu archipelago, is famous for its Bireung-gil (Cliff Trails). Historically, these paths weren't built for tourists; they were carved out over generations by local islanders walking along the sheer cliffs to fish, forage for firewood, and harvest Bangpung namul (a local herb believed to prevent strokes).
We selected Geumodo because it remains beautifully untapped by mass tourism. Its limited English-speaking environment forces you out of your comfort zone, making it the absolute perfect sandbox for true Korean language immersion. It's a place where rich history, raw nature, and authentic village life intersect to create a workation you can't get in a big city.
THE DIFFERENCE

Workation vs. Learncation

While a workation is about changing your office view, a Learncation is about changing your perspective, self-development. It’s not only about learning from one another among participants, but also learning from the locals, culture and little details throughout the trip.
Here is how our Geumodo program elevates the standard remote work trip.
YOUR ISLAND HOME

Jangji Village & Coworking Hub

During your 10-day stay, Jangji Village will be your home. Instead of generic hotels, you'll stay in authentic local guesthouses, offering a genuine taste of Korean island life.
For your deep work sessions, we’ve partnered with the Jangji Community Center to set up a pop-up coworking space. Equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, comfortable seating, and ocean breezes, it's the perfect light workation setup.
PROGRAM

This is what we are going to do there

WALL OF LOVE

What does nomads say

“Yes, it was so nice getting away from Seoul. I loved Busan. I don’t know if I’d like to live there, the beach was lovely, and there was early morning hiking with DNK friends. The DNK team had events arranged, there was a coworking space, Muay Thai lessons, lots of food as always, and a visit to the Arte Museum... It really is an instant community of like-minded people.”

“Yeah. Workation trips are fun. It’s a good chance to meet people who are not necessarily living in Korea and are coming for a shorter time. It’s a good way to engage in activities that I wouldn’t do by myself. It’s also a very nice working environment, very motivational.”
Esteban - 2024 Hoppin Jeju Alumni
“The workation was actually my third time there. It was nice. With Digital Nomads Korea, we were a pretty big group so it was very different. The hotel we stayed at was very nice. It’s located in an area with older people, there are local markets, and it’s such a different vibe from what I was used to in Seoul.”
